The Air Traffic Control Beacon Interrogator

Much attention has been given to the increasing demand for infrastructure improvements to the U.S. National Airspace System (NAS). While new programs are being developed, there are several legacy systems that still play a vital role in maintaining the NAS. Many of these systems will be tasked well beyond their original life expectancy, making the need for redesign, upgrade, and improved repair and testing capabilities a paramount concern.

The Air Traffic Control Beacon Interrogator (ATCBI-5) version 5 radar system has had over 25 years of operation in the NAS. The electronics of this system contains several modules that are obsolete, or are becoming increasingly difficult to support. In the past, this would lead to a complete system replacement. ARC reviewed the requirements for the modules and designed fit, form and functional replacements with newer technology and improved performance.
